Reviews
Sharp and heavy. Great for hard soils.
I was a field soil scientist with the USDA for about 34 years. I used this type sharpshooter for digging soil profile samples to depths of 50 cm+ during most of that time. It works especially great digging in dense clay soils and can also be carefully used to cut encountered vegetation roots. Rather than using it like a traditional shovel by pressing with your foot, I used both hands and a stabbing motion to initially loosen the soil. Downside of the sharpshooter is it is heavy, and if you have to carry it while walking long distances, it gets even heavier.
This shovel is a must for any hand excavation project. It breaks through the tougher soils with ease! And is built to last. Its added weight helps to sends it deep into the ground. A permanent part of my tool kit.
